Hi Everyone,
As most of you know, the trip that Josh and I planned for Australia had to be postponed. Don’t worry, we were as bummed as you were. In an effort to lift our spirits though, Josh and I decided to do a roadtrip to Vegas. The morning we left, the weather in Oakland was amazing.
We viewed this as a good sign for the fun we planned to have over the next couple of days. We packed the car and got ready to leave. However, before going any further, I would like to introduce the latest member of our family… BaoBao.
I bought BaoBao as a treat for passing the California Bar. Now the reason I love this bag? It forms different shapes every time you put it down.
So cool, anyway getting back on track. We packed the car and got ready to leave but first, we took a selfie…
Our first stop was only a couple of hours away in the town of Fresno. Not much in Fresno but I managed to locate a great hot dog restaurant for us to eat at called Rocket Dog Gourmet Brats & Brew. The food there was great. I got the Resolution Buster:
And Josh got himself the Superfan:
Surprisingly, this hot dog restaurant had a number of boutique beers on tap. Josh and I got to wash down the delicious taste of our hot dogs with a couple of dark beers. Even BaoBao got in on the action!
From there, Josh and I jumped back in the car and headed to our last destination for the day: Bakersfield. Okay, so not going to lie, I had higher hopes for Bakersfield. When we arrived, this was the view from our hotel room:
Yeah… not great. We started to rethink stopping in this particular country town. But not to worry, our sixth sense for finding good food and drinks kicked in. First, Josh and I found a great old dive bar to have a drink at called the Alley Cat.
From there, we found a great little tapas restaurant called Mama Roomba. The food there was lovely however the real jewel of Bakersfield was the tiki bar we found called Tikiko. First of all, it was decorated awesomely.
In our first order of drinks, Josh got the most blazing cocktail on the menu… literally!
My drink in the coconut was called the Painkiller and had pineapple juice, orange juice, coconut cream and Jamaican rum. Josh’s drink was called the Guyana Zombie and it had a lot of alcohol involved. Both drinks were amazing and made me want to go back for more. On the second round, I got the Beaux Rosa Bar which had a blended ice cream bar in it. But the really cool thing about the drink was the mug.
I swear the entire time I was drinking this, I felt the bird was asking me “Do you really need to drink this?” A lot of judgment but I did not let that slow me down. I finished this delicious drink. From there, Josh and I had an early night to get ready for our epic drive through Death Valley to Las Vegas.
