Boxing Day (Dec 2018)

Hi everyone!

For the first time in about five years, Josh and I were finally heading to another Delaney Boxing Day. These are great events Josh’s family holds every Boxing Day and its a great time to catch up with everyone. It was going to be a big day so the morning was spent conserving our energies.

We drove to Josh’s aunt’s place where the weather was absolutely beautiful. And set up for an awesome day was all the entertainment one could need.

The place we were celebrating Boxing Day was stunning. It was a property surrounded by great open spaces.

When we first got there, we had an awesome time catching up with everyone. We had not seen some people for almost 5 years so there were a lot of new faces to meet.

And then because I promised to get some nice photos of these two, I allowed my camera to be used in the pursuit of photo-perfection.

So I’m not sure if you can tell, but it was stinking hot on Boxing Day in Albury. To help the kids deal with the heat, one of the adults hooked up the hose in a tree so there was a perpetual rainfall of cool water.

After this though, we trooped into the house for the main event… Bad Santa!!! For those who don’t know, this is a game where everyone buys a present (joke or not) and then names are picked out of a hat. The person who gets picked gets to choose a present and then may either keep the present or swap it with someone else’s present (Americans – this is White Elephant). Enjoy the pics!

Presents please!
Surprisingly, the horse head was VERY popular
Josh promptly swapped these out
Al really loved his campfire light
Yup, holding on to this
Um… I’ll say no to the horse head thank you!
Yup, swapping this
Pressures on to swap!
Hmmmm… Al, where is that campfire light?

Received some shade from Al because you’re not supposed to steal from family. Tough luck Al!

And that was it, Bad Santa done for another year. With the organised activity over, everyone decided to head back outside to have some fun. First there was beers-bee:

Throw a Frisbee and knock the other team’s beer bottle off

Some tried to keep cool in the shade.

New sunnies Vicki?

But by far, the most ridiculous activity going around was Josh and Zac beating each other up…. sumo-ball style.

I’m ready to take on anything!
Ready, steady ….
Go!

Once Josh and Zac had hurt themselves sufficiently, it was time to eat. And it was exactly what Josh and I were hoping for… a good old-fashioned Aussie BBQ.

Paying homage to the cook
Um…. paying homage to all the cooks (bonus points for those who can tell me who did not do any actual cooking)
Michelin-star snags

By this time it was so hot, we went back into the house and roped everyone into a card game. One of the games going around was Codewords where one member from each team thinks of a word that describes several cards and the other team members have to correctly guess the cards. Embarrassingly, the kids beat the adults time and time again.

Read my mind – berries are found in trees!

And this marked the end of our Boxing Day. After a great day of catching up with family and making new friends, we trooped on back to Casa de Delaney tired but glad we made the trip back this year.

Thanks for sharing them. 😘

Sim. Your blogs are better than anything we could do. We really appreciate you doing such a fabulous job of recording our memories for us. You made it look as much fun as it actually was on the day. Thanks so much

I love reading your blogs Sim! So sorry we couldn’t catch up, but so awesome to see you and Josh had a brilliant time back here, with plenty of good food and company! xoxo
