Winter in LA (Jan 2019)

Hi everyone!!

I know it hasn’t been that long since I put up a post. But Josh and I have been looking forward to catching up with my cousin Giri for ages. We had a long weekend coming up so we gave Giri a quick call and what do you know, he had a free weekend as well. So, straight after work on a Friday, we jumped into the car to drive down to LA. Unfortunately, a lot of other people had the same idea….

Urgh… Traffic!

We got to LA pretty late on Friday so we didn’t do much besides grab a quick bite to eat and then hit the hay. The next day though, I finally got a good look at Giri’s new place.

Stunning!

I am in love with those windows! Even though this was a beautiful apartment and we could have stayed here all day, there was looking around LA to be down. First, we all trooped to Little Dom’s for brunch. This was a cool little diner and because Josh and I were on a mini-break, we decided to start brunch off right:

After this, Giri took us driving around LA and really, I couldn’t believe it was winter in LA.

Because the sun and brunch made us sleepy, we headed home to hang around and replenish our energy for the night. Our first stop that night on our little bar crawl was Laurel Hardware.

Really? You don’t have a table for 3?

Unfortunately we couldn’t get a table until 11 pm (who eats dinner at that time??) so we had a couple of drinks and moved on to Connie and Ted’s.

When we arrived at Connie and Ted’s, we had a 90 minute wait ahead of us. We headed out to the little outdoor waiting area they have:

and ordered a couple of drinks to pass the time.

Yes, the middle drink is a cocktail.

When we finally got seated, we were all pretty “hangry”.

Food now!

Because we were so hungry, our eyes may have been bigger than our stomachs because when the food came:

HUGE!

What you’re seeing on the bottom level are oysters and mussels. The middle level has prawns and clams and the top level has crab and lobster. Oh! and we ordered two lobster rolls with onion rings and fries. The seafood tower was so tall that Giri is completely hidden by it as I took this picture sitting down. Never to shy away from a challenge though, we demolished EVERYTHING!

I was pretty full and sleepy by this point so I put my foot down and asked to go to bed. The next day, it was time to say goodbye to Giri. We had a quick bite, promised Giri we wouldn’t let another year go by without coming down again and we headed home. For those who didn’t believe that driving around the US involves a lot of flat nothingness, Josh made me take this picture to prove our point.

Yeah, that’s right. Makes the drive up the Hume to Albury look like heaven.

Talk soon,

Simren & Josh

Brilliant! That seafood basket OMG. You’d think they’d plant a few trees, surely. It can’t be that barren, can it?

Oh, it definitely is! I don’t know how anyone can do that drive alone. Lots of aircon and loud music!
