Hi everyone!
I’ve had a post on the back burner for a while now about my baby showers. That’s right people, baby showers plural. I (& Josh) are fortunate enough to have had baby showers in Australia AND America. And now, I’m going to share all the lovely memories.
The moment Mum, Amrit and Loz heard I was heading home for an impromptu visit, they formed a committee and began planning my baby shower. That meant when I touched down in Melbourne, everything was planned. There may have been a dicey moment involving balloons but nothing could derail my Aussie shower.
Everyone chipped in to help decorate Mum & Dad’s house for the shower.
And it all turned out perfect.
Cue the obligatory photos with family on such a special occasion.
And then all the guests arrived!
First we played some games. There were frozen ice cubes containing plastic babies. Everyone had a drink made up and waited to see if their water broke first (as in, their baby ice cube melted first). Vicki ended winning! We also played “How big is Simren”. Some people came close to how round I was.
Some people thought I was as round as I was tall….
But lo and behold, the winner was my little niece who guessed my size perfectly!
And then it was time to open all of Peanut’s presents. I thought having a boy, all his clothes would be pretty standard and boy-like but OH MY GOD there are so much adorable baby boy things out there…
After all the lovely gifts from everyone, we sat around eating all the awesome Australian foods I have been craving for a while.
And that was my Aussie Baby shower in July!
Moving on to August, my friends in America threw me another baby shower that was super hero themed!
What was absolutely incredible was they made cartoon superhero versions of Josh and I as part of the decorations!
The weather was completely different between the Aussie and American baby showers. Everyone at the Aussie baby shower turned up in layers and boots. However, in America, the weather was absolutely beautiful:
Gail very kindly loaned her house for us to have this baby shower. Here I am with one of the organisers:
It was a family baby shower so all kids took advantage of the weather to get wet:
And everyone got into the spirit of welcoming Baby Peanut (aka SuperBaby):
All in, Josh and I have been completely overwhelmed by the generosity of our communities in Australia and America. Having a baby away from home is never easy but we feel really lucky to have incredible support in America and support constantly being sent over the seas.
As I write this post, I have 4 weeks to go until my due date. It seems like no time at all and hopefully my next post will be introducing Baby Peanut (with a normal name) to the world.
Talk soon!
Sim (& Josh)
