Hi everyone,
I told you this post would be coming and here it is! Josh and I are proud to announce the arrival of Walter “Wally” Patrick Delaney. Some of you know that Josh and I hired a doula to help us with his birth. We are so glad we did because she also took photos and we can now share our beautiful experience with you.
Wally arrived one week early on 30 September 2019. My water broke at 1 am but Wally decided to only grace us with his presence later that day at 4:58 pm:
Wally was born weighing 7 lb 11 oz (3.5 kg) and 52 cm long.
We stayed at the hospital for two nights which was great. I needed the time to physically recover and Josh and I needed all the time we could get with the nurses who pretty much schooled us on how to take care of a baby (i.e. swaddling, changing diapers and burping). After those two nights though, it was time to go home and figure out our new normal as a family.
Needless to say, Josh and I survived our first few nights as new parents. We were relieved to receive the tick of approval by the pediatrician when we went back for Wally’s three day checkup.
Now Josh and I did a rather harebrained thing in the lead up to Wally being born. We searched for and found a bigger place to move in (extra bedroom and backyard). The only thing was the move-in date was Wally’s original due date. So when Wally arrived a week early, we took him back to a half-packed house and pretty much lived out of boxes. And then, we forged ahead with our original idea and ended up moving houses when Wally was only one week old.
Thank god Vicki (Josh’s mum) arrived in San Francisco the day before we were due to move. Vicki pretty much looked after Wally the entire time Josh and I ran around packing and unpacking the house.
Since then, Josh has returned to work and I am settling into my maternity leave. I will be on leave until the end of March so I’m enjoying my time chilling with Wally.
I may bite my tongue later but Wally has thus far proved to be a pretty chilled out baby. And yes, Josh and I are very aware of how spoiled we are having a relaxed baby as our first. We are also enjoying dressing Wally up in all the lovely outfits we received as gifts. Josh in particular loves putting Wally in silly hats.
And that is the latest on Josh, Wally and myself. Before signing off though, I’d like to share this celebratory picture of myself and Wally in our new house:
In this picture, I am wearing my pre-maternity jeans and Wally is only three weeks old. This is huge everyone. Anyway, we have a heap of visitors coming over the next 6 months and we plan on taking a quick trip to Barbados (maybe in February). So keep an eye out for more blog posts.
Talk soon!
