Hey everyone!
So on to the next part of our Barbados trip. At this point we’ve been in Barbados for a few days and we’re starting to get into a rhythm. So we didn’t push Wally to far out of his routine, Josh and I started to make the most of our lunches and would settle for a low key dinner once Wally was asleep.
Our first “treat yo-self” lunch we had was at Lobster’s Alive. The restaurant was literally right on the beach:
And you guessed it, they did incredible spiny lobsters. Check out this bad boy.
As usual, Wally wasn’t interested in our culinary adventures. As long as he had his favourite book, he was pretty happy just chilling out.
After lunch, we decided to see if Wally would take to the pool better than his first time at the beach. To ease him in, we tried his swim toy with no water in sight.
Then we slowly dipped his feet in the pool
But then all hell broke loose:
And so that was it, we ended Wally’s pool experience for the day. Once he was out of the water though, he seemed pretty pleased with himself.
The next day, I found myself enjoying paradise while having breakfast so I decided to take a little picture:
I think this picture represents the point where I started to relax on our holiday. The lead up to Barbados was so hectic and stressful because I had to quit my job, give back all my company hardware which meant changing phone carriers, getting Wally his 4-month shots, then racing off to Barbados to get there the day before my visa appointment, have a visa appointment and maybe it was because of all the stress, but I felt really unwell the day before. This morning though, I could finally feel all the stress drain away. Straight after breakfast, we were off to see the main tourist attraction at Barbados: the Animal Flower Caves.
It was a nice visit although a bit treacherous. Josh and I took turns climbing down to the caves because there was no way in hell we would take Wally down with us. While I waited for Josh to do his tour, Wally and I enjoyed the view from the cliffs.
The next day, Josh and I were determined to give the beach another go. We got Wally ready and it was like the moment we walked onto the sand, he was hating life.
And although we spent ages soothing and cuddling Wally, it still didn’t get us anywhere.
Instead of continuing to traumatise him, we called it a day (again!) and went out for lunch. We visited a little place called Oistins where all these little stalls cook up the catch of the day. And just because we could, we had lobster again.
Look at the size of that lobster. By the way, that beer I’m holding in my hand is the local beer of Barbados and its awesome! It was so good we tried to get a tour of the brewery but they wouldn’t let us in because of Wally.
Tried to see if we could get it back in SF but they only distribute the beer in Europe and the east coast of the US. That’s ok though, we made up for it by drinking it in Barbados every chance we got.
That pretty much ticks off all the major things we did in Barbados. The rest of the time, we drove around the island and checked out all the beautiful beaches. One successful thing though was we finally got Wally to enjoy the pool.
And we even got him to use his pool toy!
And that’s it! The Delaneys headed home well rested and ready to tackle the next chapter of our lives.
By the time you read this post, I would have been at my new job for one week. It’s intense and a little overwhelming trying to figure out how to work again after having so much time off but I’m starting to get a handle on it. Thus far (and I know its early days), I’ve loved going to work every day and the team has been wonderful. Plus, I love coming home to Wally and cuddling him. He seems to doing well and is adjusting to the new normal of not having me around.
Keep your eyes out for our next adventure!
